Albany, NY (05/11/10) - The Adirondack Lynx of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) has been granted a one year leave of absence in order to reorganize under the administration of its new parent club the Albany Alleycats.  For 2010 the Adirondack Lynx has created an Under-20 squad - a new team designed for elite players from the ages of 17-22. This U-20 team will be a strong resource in the future as players in the Alleycat organization utilize the Lynx in order to prepare for their college career as well as the senior professional & amateur development leagues.

The League will debut this summer with teams representing some of the strongest youth clubs in the region as well as top WPSL organizations. Teams such as the Long Island Fury (parent club to Albertson Fury S.C.), Stars of Massachusetts, New Hampshire Seacoast, New England Mutiny, Maine Tide and Granite F.C. will compete against each other in the Northeast Division.“Although we are taking a year leave of absence from one of the top women’s leagues in the world we are excited to be aligned with the Albany Alleycats, one of the top clubs in the state of NY on the girl’s side.  This summer they are sponsoring the U-20 team in order to lay the foundation for the future of women’s amateur soccer in the capital region,” said PJ Motsiff, owner/general manager of the Adirondack Lynx. “This new partnership will provide the Alleycat players with the conduit to go as far as they want in this sport by giving them numerous opportunities to further develop their talent.”

The league has been structured in order to cater to the top of the youth ranks in the United States for players aspiring to play professionally and to serve as a reserve division for the Women’s Premier Soccer League. WPSL teams will now be able to add Under-20 teams to expand their development goals as well as their player pool for the senior team. The WPSL U-20 season will run from June to late July.  The team plans to train on Tuesday and Wednesday nights at Afrim’s Dome in Latham.
