A'dack Shows Improvement, even with a second Straight League Loss.

Once again against the Lynx this season, Connecticut's Tiffany Weimer showed why she's a US WNT caliber player as she hits a 25 yard goal to win the game for the Reds.

New Britain, CT - Playing their fourth straight game on the road to open the 2007 season has taken its toll. The Adirondack Lynx have lost their second league match in a row. This is the teams longest losing streak since joining the WPSL in 2006. Tonight the competition was former National Team and Olympic Coach Tony DiCicco's SoccerPlus Connecticut. The "Reds" as Connecticut is known won the match 2-1 on A Tiffany Weimer (US National Team) direct kick in the 75th minute. She bent a perfectly struck ball around a four person wall and just out of the reach of Marissa Abbott for the game winner.

The last lost for the Lynx was 2 weeks ago when SoccerPlus CT knocked them out of the quarterfinals of the Region I USASA OPen Cup. This time it was a league match on the line. Despite being down 1-0 at the half on a goal by Heather Hawthorne(Maine), the defending divisional champions did not let the score effect their play as they fought hard for the entire 90 minutes.

Their efforts paid off as Hannah Cerrone (U20 National Team) got the equalizer in the 65th minute. De Wachtel (The College of Saint Rose) went one vs one on the right flank, beat her opponent and drove a ball into the box that deflected off a couple players and was not able to get completely cleared. As Alyss Naeher's (U20 National Team) vision was blocked Cerrone placed a perfectly driven ball into the back of the net.

With thoughts of upsetting a team that is loaded with national team talent, the Lynx continued to push forward and create opportunities. Unfortunately, every attempt was countered by SoccerPlus' defense.

Cassie Dickerson Patrols the back

Cassie Dickerson (Ohio State) a central back arrived for the summer to play with the Adirondack Lynx. Also joining the Lynx from the Buckeyes is Keiana Mitchell, Carla Arbulu, and Lauren Robertson.

For the first time this season, Adirondack's backfield was filled with the very highly touted defensive unit from Ohio State University -- made up of Kieana Mitchell, Carla Arbulu, and Cassie Dickerson. Along with NSCAA All-American Kylie Litchfield (The College of Saint Rose) in the back, SoccerPLus really had a tough time creating many good clear scoring opportunities. The Lynx defense did an phenominal job shutting down and turning back the speed and precision of Soccerplus's attacks. Both the Connecticut goals came on Lynx player's role/duty mixups that are understandable for a backfield playing together for the very first time this season. Those can be easily resolved.

The match certainly displayed why the WPSL is ranked as one of the top and toughest women's leagues in the world. The game tallied 23 fouls, 10 Corner kicks, 19 shots on goal and 7 (incredible) saves. The aggressive physical style of play was unusual for both teams. CT was trying to remain unbeaten, and the Lynx were detrmined to grab their first league victory this season.

PJ Motsiff, the Lynx General Manager/Head Coach said, "After watching Tony's side play against us 2 weeks ago, we knew how skilled their team was. Our plan was to immediately get to their players, either before, or on very first touch and not give them time to get looks or to create. Sometimes this leads to fouls. There was nothing intentional, just great top level players from both teams playing a hard-nosed, 'In it to win it' style of soccer."

Motsiff also noted, "It was a very exciting and very even match back and forth to watch and coach. I'm very proud of the way the gals stepped up and played. We just need to finish our opportunities and get into that scoring groove like last year and everything will fall right into place for us."

The Lynx next game is Saturday at 3pm when they take on Philadelphia in their first home match of the 2007 season. The Lynx home field this year is at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY. Prior to the Match the Lynx U16 Elite Female Academy team will take on an Olympic Developmental Team from 1-2pm.
