FamilyFest 2008 to Benefit Cancer Research

Local women running the ING NYC Marathon to raise money and awareness for Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

FamilyFest 2008, an afternoon of festivities, fun, giveaways, and soccer celebration for the whole family will be happening Saturday May 31 from 4:30-6:30pm at the Adirondack Sports Complex in Queensbury, NY.

The FamilyFest will take place rain or shine inside the dome prior to the Adirondack Lynx minor league women's soccer game vs the Massachusetts Stingers . The match will begin at 7:00pm.

Admission to the FamilyFest/Adirondack Lynx game is $3.00 for Children and $5.00 for Adults (children under 5 are free). Tickets may be purchased at the door. Youth soccer teams are encouraged to wear their uniforms to the festival / game to show their own team colors.

FamilyFest will be jam packed with lots of entertainment and activities for all kids, young and old alike. There will be food, games, bounce houses, face painting, soccer skills challenges, batting cages (for a charge), as well as a raffle for great children's prizes being donated by local businesses.

FamilyFest is sure to be a carnival-like atmosphere. So plan to come, bring the entire family, and visit the Adirondack Sports Complex from 4:30 pm - 9:00 pm and join the Adirondack Lynx for a evening of festivity, fun and top level women's soccer action.

The proceeds from this years FamilyFest will benefit Pediatric Cancer Research. Three local runners, Kate Motsiff, Amy Quinn, and Chris Sciancalepore have challenged themselves to raise $3,000 each . Not only will they be raising money for Sloan Kettering Cancer Center but they are planning to run the ING NYC Marathon in November for Fred's Team. Freds Team was created to honor Fred Lebow. Fred Lebow co-founded the New York City Marathon in 1970, 55 runners crossed the finish line in Central Park. In 2007, New York Road Runners hosted the largest marathon in the world -- with over 39,265 starters and 38,607 finishers. While runners can designate their funds to be allocated toward any area of cancer research, money raised by Fred's Team runners primarily benefit the Aubrey Fund for Pediatric Cancer Research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

The Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) is one of the top ranked Women's soccer leagues in the world and is a grassroots soccer organization at heart. Being committed to grassroots development means the WPSL was founded on the principle that our youth and future players matter; that's why family oriented events like Familyfest are held-- to make the sport both fun and inspirational to youth.
