ONEONTA, NY (May 12, 2006) – SUNY Oneonta college soccer players Mary Velan and Tricia Jaeger will make their Women’s Premier Soccer League debut at the National Soccer Hall of Fame next Saturday, May 20, at 2:00pm. The Hall of Fame also just happens to be located right in their college town of Oneonta, New York.
The two players are on the roster of the WPSL Adirondack Lynx who will debut their WPLS careers against the Boston Aztecs on " At-A-Glance" Field located on the National Soccer Hall of Fame campus. It's a pretty royal "Summer Homecoming" for the pair of SUNYO standouts.
“We are excited about opening the new season at home,” Velan said. “It’s going to be fun to return to where we trained with our college team and where we have won Conference championships (In 2004 they won the NCAA Division III National Championship). We’ll have lots of friends to cheer us on!”
Lynx GM and Coach PJ Motsiff stated “We are so honored to play our first home game of our inaugural season at such a prestigious place. With this being an amateur league, our goal for this team is to make it as professional as possible. Having the support of the National Soccer Hall of Fame legitimizes our team and the WPSL. Our players are also excited that they have the opportunity to play at the highest level in the United States.”

The Lynx and Aztec are in the 15-team East Division of the WPSL, a nation-wide women’s amateur league featuring many top collegiate players. The WPSL is comprised of thirty-nine teams from the Northeast to the California coast and players have included World Cup stars like Brandi Chastain.
Boston Aztec President Mike Kersker said, “Boston Aztec is very excited to have the opportunity to play at the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Having a match at a venue like this will be very special for our players and will be something that they can cherish for years to come. Being able to play on the same field where some of the best in the world have played will truly be an honor for our players and our program. “
The Aztec roster includes 2-time Notre Dame All America Meotis Erickson and U.S. U-20 National Team player Jaime Gilbert, a University of North Carolina undergraduate.
Game admission will be $5 for adults and $3 per youth, ages 5 to 16. The game admission price will be discounted from the Museum admission charge on presentation of the game ticket.
