Fort Ann, New York – Lynx head coach PJ Motsiff saw changes in personell to the Lynx this week. Coming off a 2-0 loss in a friendly to UMASS last weekend, a number of additions to the roster were necessary in order to fill seven starting positions due to college graduations.

With an older team this year we were faced with many players not being available today due to college graduations. Motsiff said. “This match allowed us to see how some of the younger players in our player pool could withstand the pressures of playing at the highest level of women’s soccer in the United States!”

The Lynx did play an intense match Saturday afternoon at Golden Goal Tournament Park (www.goldengoalsoccer.com) but that intensity was equally met by NYAC. Play for Adirondack was tough in the first 45 minutes as there was a strong head wind. This wind came into play as NYAC’s Emily Behncke (Princeton) hit a shot from 30 yards out that floated into the back of the net at the 27:37 mark. The Lynx had a good scoring opportunity ten minutes later when midfielder Jillian Arnault hit a shot that the keeper could not handle then her rebound shot hit the back of a defender on the goal line.

Adirondack with the wind at their back spent the second half deep in NYAC’S end on the attack with some good shots just missing wide and services that never converted. In the 55th minute, Adirondack scored the equalizer when 2 of the best youth players in the Albany, NY area hooked up. Becca Lee (Bethlehem HS) put a flighted ball to the 18 where speedy Caitlin Cahalan (Shaker HS) volleyed it cleanly past the NYAC keeper.

Rachel Shushner (white), an NCAA-All region player from Skidmore College takes an uninvited hit from Ann Carr (Red) in a physical game between the Adirondack Lynx and the New York Athletic Club.

With 6 minutes to go, NYAC scored on a questionable off-sides call. With the Lynx pushing to get 3 points at home. NYAC countered on a long ball out of the back that was laid off by Emily Behnke. When she got the ball back she appeared to be in an offsides position that was never flagged by the assistant referee. On the 1v1, Behnke was able to score her second goal of the game.

Although Patti Carroll (Siena) gave up 2 goals she was excellent in the net making 9 saves. Melissa Cohen (Binghamton) was called upon to make 5 saves for NYAC.

Adirondack’s next match is on the road this Friday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m. against Soccer PLus Connecticut (2-0). Connecticut is coached by Tony DiCicco, the US National U20 team coach. The next home match will be Saturday, May 31 at 7pm inside at the Adirondack Sports Complex. For more information about the Adirondack Lynx, please visit www.adirondacklynx.com
