Adirondack Lynx Training Model

The Adirondack Lynx are changing the paradigm that once existed in training female athletes. Players can now get elite level training AND stay with their current clubs.

You could become part of a unique 10-week soccer program that will train and play just like some of the best female soccer players in the WORLD! Heather Garriock and Danielle Small (Australian National Team Players) used the Lynx training to help them prepare for the 2007 FIFA World Cup. Hannah Cerrone (US U20 National Team Member) and Brooke Knowlton (All-American from Niskayuna) used the Lynx to help them prepare for their freshman year at Boston College. Ashley Moore (local Shenendehowa standout) trains with the Lynx when she is not representing the University of North Carolina.

A PARADIGM SHIFT...

The Adirondack Lynx programs are designed with an understanding that female players have unique needs. Our best players struggle with having to leave their soccer peers to get more advanced training or to be exposed to other high level coaches. The Adirondack Lynx has created a paradigm shift and developed programs that allow those talented, focused players to stay put! The Lynx are committed to supporting the local clubs and their female players in order to provide the best possible year round training opportunities. An individuals home club is central to player development as it is a safe place where they fit in and understand their “team role”. With the Lynx Elite Academy and Summer Soccer School players are pushed outside their comfort zone without the pressure of winning/losing. This improved speed, technical skills and thinking are then brought back to the club for training and matches in order to help their developing teammates.

...Our Philosophy is to train players to understand all aspects of the game by being “in over their head without the pressure to win”

Summer Soccer School

The basic objective of the Summer Soccer School is to have a select group of 20-25 girls from around the region come together to train at least 2x/week from mid May to the end of July. This is ideal because players will get consistent training and feedback throughout the summer. The Lynx also have open communication with a players club and school coaches in order to focus training sessions on specific needs.
The Adirondack Lynx Organization knows what it takes to compete consistently at the highest levels. Our philosophy really fosters the development of each individual player that trains with us. For instance, the Summer Soccer School players are treated just like true professionals. Along with their on-field training, they will also participate in mental conditioning and speed and quickness sessions just like the WPSL players.
Training sessions will take place just prior to the WPSL/U23 practice, thus the senior team members along with the Lynx coaching staff will be assisting in the development of the youth players. As with the Elite Academy, the focus of the Summer Soccer School is on the importance of the individual as a player. This technical training is incorporated into the “big game” and players will learn the importance of how their ability effects their teams success. Winning is NEVER a priority with these teams...Player development and having a positive experience is!

Players Will Compete in the newly formed Youth Premier Soccer League...

Following in the footsteps of the highly exciting Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL), the Youth Premier Soccer League will offer member clubs an opportunity to field youth teams in a professionally run league.

Competition

Players participating in the Summer Soccer School will be competing in 3 age groups, U12, U14, and U16. By participating in the summer league, players will have the opportunity to compete at a high level but continue to work on individual player development in game situations. Many of the clubs that have committed to playing in 2008 have extensive player development programs and academy’s, so the competition and professionalism will be second to none!

Scheduling

A common sense approach to scheduling games is being used. We plan to schedule 10-12 games over 4 festival-type weekends in June and July. We will try to minimize as much as possible any conflict's that some of the players may have with their home club, ODP, Region 1, and US Club Soccer by staying away from important date's that could potentially conflict.. All 3 teams will travel together to a specific location where they will play against 3 different opponents over the course of the weekend. Games will begin Saturday afternoons (allowing the morning for travel) stay overnight and play the other 2 games Sunday morning. This will decrease traveling every week and traveling long distances to play one game. It will also cut down on expenses for gas, travel, and hotel rooms.

This allows our committed premier players to continue to be creative and take chances in order to improve their technical, tactical, physical and mental skills...
The Adirondack Lynx Women’s Soccer Team plays in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL).  The League is currently one of the top 5 women’s leagues in the WORLD!  The WPSL team and the U23 Reserve team play from May to July. It was formed for female athletes that were beyond the U19 level and wanted to play competitively during the summer months.

The Elite Female Soccer Academy runs from November to April. It fulfills 2 purposes. 1) To begin to identify players at an early age that have the potential to one day play for the WPSL team and 2) to support all of the local soccer clubs by identifying and training the true “premier” players together regardless of ones club affiliation. The Academy occasionally participates in select tournaments. Training primarily focuses on an individuals technical, mental, and physical skills. Currently the Academy has players training at the U18, U16, and U12/U14 age groups.  The Academy has players from as far west as Oneonta, South to Newburgh, North to Glens Falls, and East into Vermont.

The Summer Soccer School runs from mid-May to July. It is an opportunity for committed players to continue to hone their skills during the summer months. It is a 10-week intensive training program. The school forms teams and plays 10-12 matches in the Youth Premier Soccer League. The YPSL will have an opportunity to identify players that are potentially ready for becoming part of the US youth national team pools. This is through an association with the league and US Club Soccer's ID2 program.
