The Adirondack Lynx is proud to announce that Australian International Heather Garriock, who played with the Adirondack Lynx in 2006 and 2007 was on the short list of international players being touted by the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) League. She was drafted 12th overall by the Chicago Red Stars. She will be joining US National Team Members, Carli Lloyd, Kate MarkGraf, and Lindsay Tarpley who were allocated last week.

Heather Garriock, a starting defender/midfielder on the Australian National Team (currently ranked #12 in the world by FIFA)who was unable to play with the Lynx in 2008 due to her National team commitments. However, she was a huge reason for the teams success in their first 2 years in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL). In 2006 Garriock was the catalyst in helping the Adirondack Lynx, a first year team in the WPSL win a Divisional title and make it to the Eastern Conference Finals. She was only able to play 6 games with the team in 2006 before she had to return to National Team Duty in her native homeland. In 2007 she was only able to play in 5 matches. However, the confidence she instilled in our team lasted throughout the season." When Garriock was with the Lynx they went 8-3. She scored 10 goals and had 8 assists in 11 games! Those stats are pretty impressive considering she led the team to victory over the New England Mutiny with 1 goal and 1 assist (at the time were ranked #14 in the world) and the Long Island Fury (at the time had not been scored on in their first 7 matches) where she scored 2 goals.

I am so excited to be coming back to the States for a run in the WPS. I was actually real surprised when Coach Sermanni gave me the clearance to head overseas......” - Heather Garriock

"I am excited to be coming back to the States for a run in the WPS," comments Garriock. "My experience in the WPSL allowed me to continue playing at a high level and return to the Australian National Team rejuvenated. I was actually real surprised when Coach Sermanni gave me the clearance in 2007 to head overseas to play with the Lynx again, especially with the importance of where the Australian National Team was in gearing up for the Olympic Qualifiers and World Cup."

Garriock recently earned her 100th cap with the Matildas. She has been a mainstay on the the National Team since 1999. Thus has played in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics as well as the 2003 and 2008 FIFA World Cup.
