Last season Gardiner helped the Western Massachusetts Pioneers to an extremely successful season. The team made it to the quarterfinals of the w-league Eastern Conference playoffs. Gardiner is a midfielder and can play any where on that line, as well as in the back. Gardiner is a leader, as she was a captain for the University of Hartford. Her former coach at the University of Hartford and with the Western Mass Pioneers was John Natale. Natale says "Katie is very passionate about the game. She is a competitor and a very hard worker. Not only does she love to go at players but she has a good shot and can serve dangerous balls. Winning is very important to her!"

Motsiff feels "adding Stockdale will really round out our roster in the outside midfield position. With Laura being able to play both feet, it will makes her very versatile and allow us to change her position on the fly to exploit weaknesses. This should cause problems for other teams."
