Australian National Team coach Tom Sermanni is allowing Heather Garriock, a starting defender on the Matildas (currently ranked #14 in the world by FIFA) to play for the Adirondack Lynx this summer. Australia is currently gearing up for the 2008 Olympic qualifiers and a run at the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup in September. In 2006 Garriock was the catalyst in helping the Adirondack Lynx, a first year team in the WPSL win a Divisional title and make it to the Eastern Conference Finals.

With the signing of Heather Garriock for the 2007 season, the Lynx have just raised the level of the team "10 fold" according to General Manager, PJ Motsiff. "Garriock is probably Australia's best athlete. She was only able to play 6 games with our team in 2006 before she had to return to National Team Duty in her native homeland. However, the confidence she instilled in our team lasted for the remainder of the season." When Garriock was with the Lynx they went 5-1. She scored 5 goals and had 3 assists in 6 games! Those stats are pretty impressive considering she led the team to victory over the New England Mutiny with 1 goal and 1 assist (at the time were ranked #14 in the world) and the Long Island Fury (at the time had not been scored on in their first 7 matches) where she scored 2 goals.

I am so excited to be coming back to the States for another run in the WPSL. I was actually real surprised when Coach Sermanni gave me the clearance to head overseas......” - Heather Garriock

"I am excited to be coming back to the States for another run in the WPSL," comments Garriock. "My experience in the league last year allowed me to continue playing at a high level and return to the Matildas rejuvenated. I was actually real surprised when Coach Sermanni gave me the clearance to head overseas again, especially with the importance of where the Australian National Team is in gearing up for the Olympic Qualifiers and World Cup."

Garriock currently has 87 caps with the Matildas. She has been a mainstay on the the National Team since 1999. Thus has played in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics as well as the 2003 FIFA World Cup.
