Two Aussie World Cup, Olympic & National Team Players Sign with Lynx

Danielle Small (2003 World Cup, 2004 Olympic Team Member) and Heather Garriock (2000, 2004 Olympic, 2003 World Cup, current Australian National Team Member) will be playing for the Adirondack Lynx during its 2006 inaugural season. Both players will be arriving June 1 and will take the field for the Lynx in it's first home game against the Maryland Pride.

Heather will be coming to the Lynx team fresh from a 2-1 World Cup qualifier win over Mexico on May 24. Garriock was first selected onto the Australian WNT back in 1999 at age 16.

She is a live-wire left midfielder with dazzling close ball skills and quick attacking runs up the flank. She is always looking to make something happen and works extemely hard off the ball. "We are psyched to be coming to Upstate New York and can't wait to help out with the Adirondack Lynx goal of making the Eastern Conference Playoffs in their first year in the league."

Heather played in all three of Australia's matches as a member of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Team. A key member of the Matildas at the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup, Garriock played all 270 minutes of Australia's three matches and scored two of Australia's three goals (against China and Ghana). At the Athens 2004 Olympics, she became Australian football's youngest ever dual-Olympian at the age of 21.

She played all 360 minutes of Australia's four matches, and scored the winning goal against Greece (1-0), sending Australia to their first win in a match at a senior women's FIFA event. This was also the first Australian Team to advance past the group stage of such an event, reaching the quarterfinals, and the first Australians to take a point off the superstar USA in any competition. Overall, she has over 50 international camps (over 30 starts) while scoring nine goals for her national side.

Aussie National & Olympic Matilda team member Danielle Small also joins the Adirondack Lynx for it's inaugeral WPSL season. The World Cup, Olympic, and National team player has 32 international caps and will also be a starter for the Lynx opener June 3.

Heather will be missing from the Lynx roster from June 14-22 as she will be heading to China for another World Cup qualifier with the Australian National Team..

Danielle Small was first selected to the Australian Women's National Team (WNT) in October 1999 at age 20. Danielle was a member of the Australian Team for the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup, she was a starter in each of Australia's three matches.

Smally was also a member of the Australian Athens 2004 Olympic Team, starting in each of Australia's four matches. Overall, she has over 32 international caps (and over 20 starts) while scoring six goals for her country.

She is a an intense midfielder, strong on the ball and mobile in making smart supporting runs. Great vision, a provider of pinpoint through balls, and can run straight at a defense. Small is a very focused player and constantly planning her next moves while on the pitch.
