Sunday, March 9, 2007- Shona Franklin one of the top players out of England will make the WPSL Adirondack Lynx her home team in 2008. Franklin is currently in her sophomore year at NCAA Division 2 powerhouse Franklin Pierce University. Shona will be joining her fellow college captain and British counterpart Laura Stockdale in order to bring the Lynx back to the play-offs in 2008.
Throughout her youth, Shona has been training at the highest levels in the UK. She really developed as a player working with the Aston Villa Ladies FC Youth System. Having been identified early in her career, Shona has earned caps while playing for England on the U15, U17, and U19 youth national teams.
This past fall, Franklin was rehabbing from an injury and competed in 21 matches, making 12 starts for the Ravens. She was at her best in post-season as her team made it to the National Championship before losing in penalty kicks. In 2006 Franklin had a banner year helping her Pierce team to the NCAA Quarterfinals. In doing so she was rewarded as the NE 10 Conference Player of the year, First Team All-Conference, New England Region All-Conference and Second Team NSCAA All-American.
General Manager and Head Coach, PJ Motsiff sees Franklin as being a key cog in filling out his roster. "With the loss of a couple veterans for this summer, I feel Shona will step in and make an immediate impact on the league. She is a spitfire to watch and will add speed to either our midfield or forward positions depending on the system of play we put together."
