Ashley Hamel is coming off her freshman year at the University of Massachusetts. Hamel saw action in all 17 games. In the first 13 games she saw considerable time off the bench, before starting the last four. Her coach Jim Rudy feels she is ""A very quick, intelligent player who can beat you one-on-one with the ball or can set you up so she can beat you off the pass as well. We like having people with one-on-one ability, particularly with her flexibility: she can go left or right."

Prior to UMass, Hamel attended Schuylerville (N.Y.) High School. In her senior year she tallied 20 goals and 20 assists, both of which set new school single-season records Ashley was a four-time, first-team league all-star. In 2006 she was named league Co-Player of the Year, as well as a NY All-State player in 2005 and 2006. Hamel played her club soccer for the Capital United Soccer Club. Her team was the NY Cup Champions in 2006 and State Cup Finalists in 2007.

General Manager PJ Motsiff states, "Ashley is a returner for the Adirondack Lynx. A year ago she played mostly with the Reserves. However, she was brought up to the first team at the end of the year and she proved that she can play at this level. I am looking forward to see how the college game has increased her level of play."
