Profile

Meghan Sleezer, the freshman starting goalkeeper at Skidmore College has been training with the Adirondack Lynx Elite Female Soccer Academy and the full WPSL team for the past year and a half. Brimming with confidence and poise from a summer of intense training under Lynx head coach, and former professional goalie Bernie Watt, Meghan now has her college team stacked up and ready to make their run into the 2008 NCAA Women's Soccer Championships this November.

Throughout the fall, she has boosted her team to a very respectable 13-4-4 season with some great defensive goalkeeping. The Thoroughbreds lost the Liberty League Championship this past weekend in a heart breaking penalty kick decision to perennial powerhouse William Smith. However, in her 18 game starts, Sleezer has recorded 9 shut-outs, and only given up 7 goals in the very competitive and high scoring Liberty League division. She currently holds a stunning .40 GAA average and a .917 save percentage. That gives her the #1 ranking in her league for GAA and #2 ranking for total saves. Quite an accomplishment for a rookie season.

Sleezer choose not to play premier club level soccer, and instead honed her netminding skills exclusively with the Adirondack Lynx Female Academy and the WPSL team. That is a bit of an unusual situation as most of the girls training in the academy are strongly encouraged to remain training with their club teams in addition to their Lynx schedule. But it seems to have not affected Sleezer in the least given her outstanding keeper stats this fall.

She felt that the skills and training provided by Bernie Watt definitely helped her during her inaugural season in the nets at college. She noted, "The level of play between high school and college is so different, and so much quicker. Playing and training under the Lynx and Bernie has really helped me adjust to the faster tempo of collegiate play before I got here."
